I'm setting up my first tube script and I'm trying to figure out the best server config. Should I use Nginx or Apache? And what about the database? Is it better to keep it on the same server or get a separate DB server?

Nginx all the way for serving video. Apache will eat all your RAM if you get a spike in traffic. As for the DB, start with it on the same server to save money. If you start hitting high concurrent users, then move the DB to its own node.

Thanks. I'll go with Nginx and keep the DB local for now. Do I need a control panel like cPanel, or should I just do it via command line?

Skip cPanel if you are on a VPS. It just adds overhead. Learn the basic CLI commands for Nginx and MySQL. It will save you money on licensing and your server will run much faster.
