I've got mixed experiences with this one, I almost always see my blogs go up in the SERPS when I update them, at least short term, BUT I have had blogs that I didn't post in for weeks and they kept increasing in traffic and going up
Also backlinks are more important than updates by a whole lot, I still have to outrank static TGPs with paid backlinks from yahoo directory and some are even in dmoz if i want to get the #1 spot

So i've devised this very clever plan: if it works, don't touch it lol
As long as I get the amount of traffic I want each day, I ain't updating, when traffic starts to drop, I write a new post, if I want more traffic or better positioning I try to update more often, see if that works, in not, build backlinks and so on
