Not standing up for any particular service, but one thing to keep in mind is you always hear more complaints than compliments, since most people don't go out of their way to post threads about how great such and such a service is, but do go out of their way to warn others when having a problem, and the larger a company gets the greater percentage of complaints are voiced.
A company may have 10 customers and only 1 complains about something (which is 10% of their customer base), when the same company has 150,000 customers and only a couple dozen complaints (which is a tiny percent) it seems worse. I have used Hostgator (with a resellers account) for close to 2 years for both my adult and mainstream sites, it hasn't been perfect, but I've had much worse. however they've been fairly low traffic, and most people with complaints have fairly high traffic and/or cpu usage sites it seems. I did get a warnings from them twice in my time with them, once for "inodes", they limit your account to 50,000 files and folders and I had a site at like 90,000 files before they complained, the other was something to do with a script and mysql usage or something, I changed the number of crons I had running and they never complained again. __________________
